TSD Updates, 01 February 2011

General Updates

• Technical Services Division managers were introduced to the Human Resources team members that work with Alan Napier and Jasmin Kotwal.  After a brief information exchange, the HR staff were treated to a tour of the TSD. 
• Rick, Katharine, Trevor, and others from relevant departments, will be meeting with the architects to review plans for needed space on the post-renovated A-floor. 
• TSD members are considering a change in the name for the 4-week reserve collection as there appears to be some confusion for patrons about the difference between the course reserve collection (behind the circulation/reserve desk) and the 4-week reserve collection (on A-floor).

Catalog and Metadata Services Division (CaMS)

Circulation Services Division (CSD)

• CSD is hiring a casual/hourly person to assess the usage of various study spaces in the building.  There has been a general feeling that some spaces aren't being adequately used, and this measure will provide some much needed data. 
• Alex Brown has been working with Gary Buser to make improvements to the ORRS database.  There is now a direct link to the course information from the Office of the Registrar, and coming soon will be the ability for faculty and staff to pull items from the Main catalog to the ORRS directly.
• Jennifer Block, Trevor Dawes, and Liza Scherff-Nesarikar are working on a plan to more closely align the resource sharing units (ILS and Borrow Direct) within CSD

Order Division

• Spending appears to be at the same levels as at this time last year.  
• Japanese subscription records are now in Voyager and training will begin soon for EAL staff.
